August 2002                                                              Print Legacy Newsletter

For the past 2 months, I have had the privilege of introducing you to Legacy’s band and to a couple of the “heroes of the faith”, our lead and tenor singer.  This month I’ll close the introductions with my final “hero”, our baritone singer, and myself.  I’ve already expressed in prior issues, how my three vocal partners had a tremendous influence on leading me into gospel music through their talents and testimonies through the years.  As I stated last month, when I was in my early teenage years, my three favorite local groups were “The Sentinels”, “The Watchman Quartet”, and “The Kings Messengers”.  My desire was to eventually sing with one of these groups when I got older.  I actually got a “double dose” of the Lord’s blessing by having the opportunity to sing both with “The Watchman Quartet” and to also sing with all three founding members of my three favorite groups (who now form Legacy).  (By the way, to my fellow peers in the gospel music field, always take your calling very serious and never discount any person who comes and speaks with you, especially young people.  You never know who you may influence one day to enter the gospel music/ministry field).

The final “hero of the faith” is our baritone singer, Mike Aycock.  Mike was one of the founding members of “The Kings Messengers” and was its manager for many years.  Like our bass guitar player, Andy Mitchell, Mike also has a tremendous testimony of how God delivered him from cancer several years ago.  God has also blessed Mike in many other ways.  He has a wonderful family who supports him every weekend.  Mike has a wonderfully smooth and powerful baritone voice and his vocal abilities are well documented.  What I admire the most about Mike however, is how he always tries to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, especially during a service, in sharing a word from the Lord which was laid on his heart.  I have also seen him take the time to witness to people after a service, and that’s what it’s all about!!  On a personal note, Mike was raised in Pikeville, NC and currently lives in Nahunta, NC.  He has been singing gospel music for 28 years, all of that time with either “The Kings Messengers” or “Legacy”.  Mike states his favorite singer is George Younce, favorite bible verse is John 3:16 and favorite song is “Hello Mama”.

Finally, I am Legacy’s bass singer, Tim Perry.  I have been singing in various groups for 16 years, two of the primary groups being “The Whites” and “The Watchman Quartet”.  I was raised and currently live in Zebulon, NC.  My favorite singers are George Younce and Mike Holcombe (bass singers, of course), favorite bible verse is 1 Thessalonians 4:13-38 and favorite song is “Welcome To Heaven” by the Singing Americans.

If you have recently subscribed to CMP magazine, I welcome you to read our prior articles (which include the introductions to our other group members), on Legacy’s website at www.legacyministries.com.   Please check our schedule and the next time you are in our area, please come by and see us and let us share with you through song, the greatest love story ever told.

In Christian Love,

Tim Perry for Legacy
