July 2002                                                              Print Legacy Newsletter

Last month, I had the privilege of introducing you to Legacy’s band.  This month, I am going to focus on two of the vocalists which I have the opportunity to share the stage with each weekend.  It’s amazing how the Lord, in his own time, will give His children opportunities and blessings, if we only continually pray and put our trust in Him. I am reminded of the bible verse “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.  Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass” (Psalm 37: 4-5).  When I was in my early teenage years, I learned to love southern gospel music through attending concerts and listening to many of the great local groups of that era.  My favorite groups were “The Watchman Quartet”, “The Sentinels” and “The Kings Messengers”.  I looked at those fellows with such admiration and respect and had a dream to sing with such a group when I got older.  What is wonderfully unique about “Legacy” is that my three vocal partners were the founding members/managers of my three favorite groups when I was young; (James Kirby of The Watchman Quartet,  Walter Bass of The Sentinels and Mike Aycock of The Kings Messengers).  This month I’ll introduce you to Walter and James.

Walter Bass is the manager of Legacy and one of the smoothest tenors you’ll ever meet.  His sweet and humble spirit is evident everywhere he goes. Not only can he hit all those high notes, but he sings with such feeling and conviction that you know every word comes straight from the heart.  Walter was originally born in Fremont, NC and currently lives in Garner, NC.  Walter has been in Gospel music for 28 years and, as stated earlier, sang with and was a founding member of The Sentinels.  Walter states his favorite bible verse is John 3:16 and his favorite song is “Forgiven”.

Singing lead is one of the most vocally talented men I’ve had the opportunity to sing with, James Kirby.  I had the opportunity to sing with James in the late 1980’s in the group which he founded and managed, The Watchman Quartet.  James’s vocal range extends from the bass to the tenor range, but that is not what makes James stand out most in my mind.  James has a passion for ministry and typically gives the invitation at the end of each of our services.  You can see the desire to see souls saved every time James speaks or sings, and that’s what it’s all about!!  James was born and raised in Lucama, NC and currently lives outside of Kenly, NC.  James has been singing gospel music for 28 years, a large majority of that time with The Watchman Quartet.  James states his favorite singer is Glen Payne, his favorite bible verse is Romans 10: 9-10 and his favorite song is “My Name is Lazarus”.

Next month, we’ll close the group introductions with my favorite baritone singer , Mike Aycock and myself.  Please check our schedule and/or our website for opportunities to come and worship with us.  We love to sing and have a great time and look forward to seeing you at a singing soon!!!!

In Christian Love,

Tim Perry for Legacy
