'On The Road With Legacy' - Quarter 1            Print Legacy Newsletter

A new year has arrived and the usual “resolutions” are to be heard everywhere.  A new year often brings with it new beginnings and in some cases, a fresh start.  Starting with a clean slate is often an ideal which society will often not let us do.  Emotional and psychological baggage often accompanies us throughout life and past indiscretions are sometimes not forgiven by society.

Fortunately, eternity is not based on what society thinks or teaches, but is based on the fact that we will live forever and ever, somewhere.  We all make mistakes and sin.  We are all unworthy of heaven.  On our best day, the Bible states our righteousness is as “filthy rags”.  If you are reading this and are under the burden of past mistakes or sins, there is hope and good news.  God had a master plan to grant us eternal life from the very beginning.  God knew we would fall short of his holiness, but at the same time demanded punishment for sin.  Since someone had to pay the price, He sent His only son Jesus, who took the punishment in our place.  All we have to do is accept that free gift.  If you are under any type of burden, and Satan has robbed you of your peace, just stop right now and first of all ask the Lord to forgive you of whatever past sin or burden has gotten you down.  If you have not asked Jesus to come into your heart and be your Lord and Saviour, you need to do that and accept his free gift of salvation.  Prayer of this nature with true sincerity will accomplish two things.  If you have accepted Jesus into your heart, you are now a child of God and can come boldly before his throne as his child.  Second, God promised that if you will confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive your sins.  Since God has forgiven you, then forgive yourself and move forward in being the witness for the Lord that He wants you to be.  He loves you and has great and wonderful things in store for each one of us!!

Some exciting events have transpired since our last newsletter. We have added three new band members!! Brad Lee our former drummer, has decided to accept a call into the ministry. Stepping right in is Tim Aycock (the son of our baritone singer, Mike Aycock). Tim played drums for Legacy immediately prior to Brad for several years and it is great having him back. Tim has a lovely wife, Kathy and a brand new baby, Kyleigh Jo-Ann Aycock. Tim has been in Gospel music for 6 years and states his favorite hobbies are riding motorcycles and painting cars. His favorite musician is Chris Wheeler and favorite gospel group is Heaven's Echoes.

Joining us on steel guitar, dobro and harmonica is Gene Dawson. Many of you will remember Gene from his days with the Watchman Quartet (as a matter of fact, I sung with Gene for 2 years while I was with the Watchman Quartet, so it's especially nice being together again). Gene is married to his lovely wife Kim and they have two precious children, Jacob (7) and Christian (3). Gene has been in Gospel music for 23 years and he states that his favorite hobby is restoring old cars. His favorite musicians are Hall Rugg and Terry McMillian and favorite group of all time is the Cathedrals (I'll second that). His other favorite activity is spending time with his wife and boys.

Finally, joining us on bass guitar is Johnny Head. Johnny is married to his lovely wife Pam and they have two good looking and talented children, Jeffrey (19) and Jennifer (15). Johnny has been in Gospel music for 10 years and previously played with Heaven's Echoes and The Watchman Quartet. Johnny states that his favorite hobbies are working on cars and just tinkering in his shop. Johnny plays both the bass and rhythm guitar. His favorite musician is Gene Dawson and favorite singer is Michael Combs, while his favorite Gospel group is The Kings Messengers. Johnny echoes each of us in Legacy in being thankful for the love and support from his family, Pam, Jeffrey and Jena and to a special friend, Craig Kirby.

Well, that's about it for our first newsletter of 2004. We will be heading into the studio this year to record another project, and are certainly looking forward to that. Finally, just a note that as we are mailing these newsletters and compiling names and addresses, sometimes misspellings occur. Please know that these are not done intentionally and if you can drop us a line and let us know what the correction needs
to be, we'll certainly be glad to make any changes needed. We hope to see you at a service soon!!

Until next time in Christian love and service,

Tim Perry for Legacy.

(As this newsletter was going to press, Legacy had just learned of the homegoing of Judy Aycock’s mother, Eunice Mitchell.  She entered heaven on December 29th.  Judy is the wife of our baritone singer Mike Aycock.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Judy and the family)
