God loves you!! Those three simple words have
confounded philosophers throughout the ages. Almighty God, who created all
the stars and planets, who created the angels, who with one word, has all
power to accomplish His will, loves us.
It is comforting to know that I have
cheering me on in my corner, the creator of the universe, who has
everything under control. In all events, He works them out for our good.
He comforts us in our time of need and shows grace and mercy in His own
unique way.
God wants the best for His children. He
wants us with Him. Because we have all rebelled and sinned, we could never
live with Him, as He despises sin. It’s not a matter of our good works
outweighing our bad works, and hopefully the scales will tilt in our
favor. It’s not a matter of being a moral person, obeying the Golden
Rule and following the Ten Commandments, and feeling that since God is a
loving God, He will understand our shortcomings and let us in. That is in
direct contradiction to what the Bible says.
Sin has to be punished. Sin cannot exist
in God’s presence. If we have committed just ONE sin, we cannot enter
heaven. Period. God saw that the only way to reconcile us to Him was to
pay the penalty himself, through sending His son, Jesus. Our sins were
placed on Jesus and when He was crucified, His blood covered all of our
sins and mistakes and God’s free gift is, if we just admit we are
sinners, believe that Jesus died for our sins and rose again, and ask
Jesus to come into our heart and save us, He will do it.
My wife and I recently watched the movie,
“The Passion”. Some critics have said that it is too graphic. Yes it
is graphic, but that is reality. That was how cruel and painful the cross
was. A few things are amazing, which showcase God’s love. During the
midst of His being ridiculed and beaten mercilessly, He could have just
given up on the human race and said, “Forget it!!” and instantly been
rescued by angels and taken back to heaven. But He stayed and took the
blows. Not only did He stay, but in the midst of His agonizing torture, He
said “Father, forgive them. They know not what they do”. How many of
us would have shown that kind of mercy. Why, we are ready to engage in a
confrontation, for something as trivial as being cut off in traffic. How
pathetic we are as human beings, but how merciful God is. Something else
to think about. He could have come in the period of execution chambers,
and died a much more humane death. He did not have to come during the
historical period of crucifixion, but He did to fulfill scripture and to
illustrate the ugliness of sin, through the barbarity of the punishment
required to atone for sin. God loves you. He knows your favorite color. He
knows your hopes and dreams. He knows what causes you anxiety. He knows
what causes you fear. He is preparing a place for each one of us in
heaven, and He is going to have each one of our mansions prepared exactly
how we would enjoy it the most. I recently watched a DVD by Anne Graham
Lotz (Billy Graham’s daughter), called “Heaven, My Father’s House”.
I highly recommend watching this. She takes you on a journey, of our
eternal home, and what God has prepared. I am personally excited that my
God, who knows me better than anyone else, is preparing a permanent
dwelling place, just for me, exactly in the way that would bring me the
greatest joy.
God loves you, and He is constantly
searching for you to come home. If you have not made your eternal
destination secure, why not do it now? The greatest inheritance you could
leave your children is the assurance that they will see you again one day.
Children, the greatest love you could show your parents, is giving them
the peace of mind that your eternal destiny is secure.
That is why Legacy sings, to tell others
about God’s love. God is in love with you. He wants you with Him
forever. He is your “cheering section”. When no one else is pulling
for you, He is. He’ll never abandon you. He’ll never leave you. You
always have someone to talk to. He is just a prayer away. If you’ve not
spoken with Him in a while, why not now? While you are at it, He has
written an entire book outlining His great love. Why not open it and begin
reading? I’d recommend the Gospel of John, then Romans. I personally
like Proverbs and Psalms as well. The important thing is just to start
reading, if it’s just a few verses a day to start off with. You will
gradually notice a world of difference in both your attitude and your
overall approach to life. The Bible says to “Seek ye first the Kingdom
of God, and all these things shall be added unto you”. Seek God first in
all that you do, and you’ll find that all other issues and problems of
life will eventually and gradually work themselves out. Then you will
begin to experience the true joy and peace of having almighty God on your
side. When you finally reach your eternal home, as you walk down the
streets of gold and greet all your family and friends, you’ll look down
toward the end of the street, and there will stand Jesus, arms
outstretched, a smile on His face, and since He’s been cheering you on
your entire life, I believe He may even begin to applaud!! How wonderful
and happy that time will be. His child has made it home!!
In Christian Love,
Tim Perry for Legacy
